These stilts are fired onto the bottom of bowls and plates that already have been enameled with a base coat of enamel. Once the stilts are attached, the bowl or plate can be turned over and the front side can be enameled without leaving stilt marks on the side of the bowl that other types of trivets would leave. Once the piece is finished, the Star Ceramic Stilts are knocked off the bottom of the bowl with a light hammer tap. The bowl can then be fired up-side down, one last time to remove the marks made by the star stilt, or felt pads may be glued over the firing marks.
